Whether just passing through or just wanting something to do on New Year’s Eve, the great Pinecone Drop from the top floor of the Weatherford Hotel in Flagstaff, AZ is a fun event for all.
Many businesses stay open to help tourists and Flagstaff residents celebrate the New Year with the dropping of the 6 foot tall, LED lighted pinecone that the hotel suspends over the street. The pinecone is lowered at 10 p.m. to celebrate the dropping of the ball in New York’s Times Square and is also lowered at midnight to celebrate bringing in the New Year Arizona time.
This will be the Weatherford Hotel’s 16th year to welcome in the New Year in this Flagstaff tradition.
While waiting for the pinecone drop, enjoy the Flagstaff downtown shops, the different downtown breweries, local restaurants or art galleries that will be open to help keep you warm and fed while counting down the minutes to another New Year. The Weatherford is taking dinner reservations at their Charley’s restaurant and their Gopher Hole bar will have music from Stylus. For more information click here.
Also – start the New Year off right with the “Polar Plunge” on New Year’s day at upper Lake Mary. At high noon the Flagstaff Food Bank and Family Food Center help sponsor the Polar Plunge. Bring a can of food or two to enter into the Polar Plunge.
